Château de Pommard Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2015 is Worth Celebrating
It is easy to take for granted a French wine that comes from a vineyard established in 1726. You simply assume that it must Taste great. Fortunately for us, the new 2015 vintage from Château de Pommard lives up to those expectations.
This is a wine that you want to drink now, or keep it for up to 10 years, possibly many more. The wine embodies some of the best aspects of not just the Burgundy region, but also the winery’s method of combining different 18-month old barrels from each of the 7 distinct soils and microclimates of the terroir of Clos Marey-Monge in the Cotes d’Or.
The result is a delicious medium-body French wine, with smooth tannins and several aspects that are almost New World in their manifestation.
Perhaps this is an effect of the winery’s ongoing conversion to biodynamics, or maybe there is some relation to its acquisition by a Silicon Valley entrepreneur in 2014.
We can only speculate, but one thing we do know is that this distinctly and definitely French wine solves an age old dilemma of having to choose between a California style wine and a French style wine. We think that in this bottle of Clos Marey-Monge Monopole 2015 you can do both. Although to some wine lovers this might be a horrible thing to say, we however consider it a great compliment.
