We are Excited about the New 2015 Pinot Noirs from Ryan Cochrane Wines

Up and coming winemaker Ryan Cochrane has two new Pinot Noirs that have us very excited, and they are both 2015 vintages.

We first encountered Ryan Cochrane Wines at a PinotDays event in San Francisco, where he was surrounded by many well-known vineyards. Nonetheless, his own personal effervescence, enthusiasm, and knowledge were engaging. Fortunately, the wine themselves embodied all of these traits as well.

This characteristic means that every year when Ryan releases a new vintage, it is a time for excitement. The grapes source primarily from Santa Barbara and the Santa Maria area, and the wines are handmade in a location in San Francisco. This means that the label has a little bit of Coastal, Northern, and Central California-wine region influences in its creation. These combinations seem to appeal to many wine critics, who have scored Ryan Cochrane’s releases in the 90-point range.

We should also say that for this reason, Ryan Cochrane Wines was selected as one of the Official Wine Partners of the 9th Annual TASTE AWARDS, which were celebrated in West Hollywood in April 2018 at the ritzy new Kimpton La Peer Hotel and restaurant Viale dei Romani.

Very light in the glass, this fascinating exploration of the underripe side of Pinot Noir shows green olive and crushed cherry tomato aromas on the nose, with prevalent bay leaf, green peppercorn and pine resin. Those elements converge on the sip to make a cranberry, spicy herb and eucalyptus nut tea, which is tangy and complex.”

Moderately light garnet color in the glass. Endowed with lovely aromas of strawberry, red cherry, bark, anise and oak spice. Light in weight yet flavorful, featuring an array of red fruit flavors with a compliment of spice and smoky oak. Elegant, with lacy tannins and some staying power on the cherry-fueled finish.”

Candied red fruits of raspberry and pomegranate meet with rhubarb pie, sweet thyme and ripe tomato on the nose. It’s supple and soft on the palate, with more tomato flavors as well as fennel pollen and tarragon.”

Light ruby red color in the glass. Aromas of cherry, savory earthy flora and sandalwood. Light weighted but highly satisfying flavors of red cherry and berry backed by warm spices and a touch of savory herbs. Elegant and juicy with tame, suede tannins. The proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove.”
