Horsepower Vineyards‘ Syrah is for the Horse Lover & The Breeders’ Cup

Great wine and equestrian pursuits go extremely well together. That’s why when you are watching an important race event such as the Breeders Cup you want to have something that deliciously ties them both together.

TasteTV has selected this red wine with stylish horse-themed labels and history that any horse lover will want to add to their collection.

2016 Horsepower Vineyards Syrah The Tribe Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley

We found that Syrah The Tribe is a fantastic red with balance and meatiness to its composition. A perfect compliment to a meal that is oven baked, roasted or grilled, yet also worth storing in your wine cellar for a good reason to open in a few years. The winemaker’s practice of planting the rows and vines much closer together in a dense pattern results in fewer harvested grapes but with more punch as far as flavor and notes. 4.5 STARS

Currently retailing for around $150 to $195 a bottle, the 2016 vintage has already garnered numerous accolades.

The Wine Enthusiast gave it 98 points, saying “Aromas of ash, black pepper, rock salt, black olive, wet stone, potpourri and fresh tobacco lead to outrageously expressive, savory flavors on the palate”

BIODYNAMIC WINE

Christophe Baron is the founder of both Cayuse Vineyards & Horsepower Vineyards. Like Cayuse Vineyards, Horsepower uses biodynamic farming that adds vitality to the soil and respects nature,  according to an astrological sowing and planting calendar, and also entirely without the use of herbicides, synthetic fertilizers, chemical insecticides or fungicides.

For help with actual the wine growing, 5 draft horses cultivate the vineyards.

The vineyard says its name is tied to its truth: “With Cayuse Vineyards, Christophe Baron was not only the first vigneron in the Walla Walla Valley to fully implement biodynamic farming practices, but also the first to use horses for cultivation. Zeppo arrived in 2008, and Red followed a year later. Today, five horses cultivate tightly spaced, 19th century-style vineyards that only they can navigate, using specialized farming equipment created by a blacksmith in Burgundy, France.

That’s why, on any given day in any of our three vineyards, the only sound you’re likely to hear is the hoofbeat of tradition, played and preserved on the stones of Horsepower. ”
